Orchids Alive in Zone 5 is an ongoing commentary by an orchid hobbyist living in Kansas City, Missouri, about growing and blooming tropical orchids.
Why a blog?
- Reaches everyone who loves orchids and who has access to Web.
- Allows tracking of each story and page. Provides other statistical analysis, and offers the opportunity via categories and tags to manipulate likelihood of blog visitors to read particular stories.
- Archivable.
- Searchable.
- OSGKC/News blog is marketed – the link is advertised on many other orchid Web sites and email signatures.
- Offers immediate and timely opportunity for corrections, clarifications and updates
- Can be personalized for special announcements and events.
- Aesthetically attractive, offering graphics, videos and links, especially as compared to an email and a pdf file.
- Because each story (posting) and each page presentation is attractive, OSGKC and others can use them to forward to friends and potential members to promote the society and orchid growing.
- Embedded links give interested readers opportunity for more information.
- Establishes consistent presentation (e.g., fonts and graphics) for PCs, MACs and other platforms (Blogs are web-based documents, not Word or Outlook-based).
- Cannot be dumped from someone’s Outlook mailbox, thereby lost when needed or wanted later – an OSGKC/News blog story and page is always on the blog, once uploaded and published.
Does this furnace have an electric fan?
No. Nothing electric about it. I have a small fan beside the new furnace to move the heat, but in the future, when the power does out during a storm, the fan won’t work. That’s alright, though, because the Eskabe will keep cranking on.
